I thought it would probably be appropriate - and respectful - to make Titanic my picture for today. I'm actually just about to watch the film, but I don't know if I agree completely with the way the film portrays the ways of the times.
I've always had a somewhat morbid interest in disasters (Air Crash Investigation being my fav TV show) so I like to watch documentaries about Titanic. I like to learn the facts about how the ship was built, I've visited Belfast and been beneath the empowering H&W cranes which built Titanic, and it's sister ship 'Olympic'. I feel sometimes other people don't quite understand the story of Titanic - they watch the film and get carried away with the story of Jack and Rose, and forget about the 2233 other souls that were onboard.
And after the sinking of the Costa Concordia on Friday 13th January, does it put me off 'cruising'. No - it doesn't - because you're far more likely to be killed in your car. I've never had any hesitation getting behind the wheel.
Still, it's 100 years since a very sad day. So - out of respect - I'm gonna watch the film tonight with David.
Another picture tomorrow!
Conrad
